National Education Policy 2020:

After a long time of 34 years, the education system of India has changed. ‘National Education Policy (NEP 2020) have been accepted by the union cabinet on Wednesday dated 29 July 2020. A press conference was held at 4pm by the union minister Prakash Javdekar and the HRD minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank. The HRD ministry has been renamed as Education minister. The ministers said that there would be only one regulatory body for all the educational institutes in the country.

Key decisions in the National Education policy:

Formation of National Education Technology Forum:

NETF will be an E-platform which would consist of courses in eight different regional languages. It would also consist of virtual labs which you create an amazing experience for the students when studying from home.

Introduction of vocational courses:

Unlike China and other countries, India will also have vocational courses for the students. By 2030, more than 50% students will have hand on experience on various vocational training such as cooking, carpentry, electric work, plumbing, etc. This will increase the employability for the youths of the country.

Top foreign universities will be welcomed to set up their campus in India to give quality education to the students of the country within the country.

Education sector to get 6% of the GDP:

By far, this is the most important change in the education system of India. Earlier, education comprises of only 1.8% of the nation’s GDP.

To cope up with the enhancement in the technology, coding will be in the curriculum from class 6. This will lead to development of scientific thinking and problem solving among the students.

Multi-disciplinary institution in every district:

According to NEP 2020, each district will have a multi-disciplinary institution by 2030.

10+2 concept cancelled, now 5+3+3+4:

Instead of 10+2, a new pattern will be made available for schools. It includes:
Group A- 5 years – up to grade 2-Primary education
Group B-3 years-grade3 to grade 5
Group c-3 years-grade 6 to grade 8
Group D-4 years-grade 9 to grade 12
Government is deciding to scrap the boards pattern and bring in the semester pattern to reduce the stress of board on the students. The traditional system of arts, science and commerce will be broken down and students will be free to choose the career of their choice.

Three languages for students:

Changes in education system include Three languages to be learned by students according to the choice of state, region and student.

Bag-less education system:

Government is trying to introduce the concept of bag less schools through NEP 2020.

Dance, music and art in schools:

Government is trying to develop a suitable environment for practice of various art form along with studies.

Reduction in curriculum:

Considering stress on students, the ministry has decided to reduce the syllabus from the curriculum. Rather than focusing on theoretical concepts, NEP 2020 will lead to practical learning with hand on experience with vocational courses. 

National scholarship portal to be expanded: 

Students from SC, ST, OBC and other SEDGs caste will be promote for studies by providing them scholarships and free ship

4 years integrated B. Ed degree-minimum qualification for teacher:

 Teaching standards will be improved by NETF by bringing in a minimum 4 years program for teacher to teach in school.

Technology enhanced learning:

Technology will be used as a tool by the teacher to meet the requirement of the 21st century students. These changes in education system include development of better content-learning, apps and various technology tools for the students.

The Indian Education System was on the declining mode due to more importance been given to theoretical knowledge. The NEP 2020 will give a boost to practical knowledge to students and will give them a broad sense of their future career. The enhancement of the technology in teaching will add glory to the nation. This system will usher a new era in the education system and will try to solve various problems. Education is considered as the foundation and an investment of 6% of GDP will pay heed to it and give us magnificent result in the future when India will emerge as a super power in the world.
